It feels like just a little progress but judging by the last picture that I’ve shown a lot has happened in the meantime. I sculpted some lips around the mouth and also designed the eye sockets. After some experimenting with the brain (see my earlier post) I decided that I would not be using these parts and instead went for the pieces that I removed from the head in the beginning. The tongue will end up in the middle hole, I suppose?
Here is a little surprise release of my Metamorphin sugar capsule toys featuring pink and turquoise pills.
Metamorphin come in a handmade blister capsule packaging and a handmade box. There are 10 different sculptures out of which 2 are less often and one is a chase. I will take care not to have a set of only one sculpture but I can not promise that there won’t be doubles. No single purchase of pills is possible.
Background story: After body modification nano-technology had become not only common but also fashionable one company quickly seized the opportunity to offer the ability to buy cheap, timed capsules with the ability to enhance the body and mind in almost every way imaginable. Metamorphin advertise themselves with low cost and highly satisfied customers while at the same there is very little known about longterm and side effects…
Edition of 4! Only available via my online store
This is bit of an experiment and I am not sure it will work out. I actually want to incorporate this part of the brain that came with the Bob’s Nightgamer. However, I don’t want to use this but actually a transparent silicone reproduction in all it icky awesomeness… Especially because I still want to use the LEDs that Bob sent me with the whole set.
1. (Above) This is the original part that I am going to use.
2. Here I started to cover the vinyl piece with ZEN wax which is awesome for modeling but here I use it to make a solid negative of the brain part…
3. This is the negative / mold. Worked quite well but needs some more definition. Carving tools where are ye?
4. I decided the brain is not long enough and needs a little extension.
5. The negative almost ready. You can see that I made the curves a little deeper.
6. The finished negative with a little polishing which will hopefully passed onto the silicone positive.
7. The tools. Yes, it is cheap sanitary silicone. The type that is usually being used for bath tubs and sinks. You can use this for molding as well, actually. A trick I learned whilst working on a stop-motion set.
8. Negative with gooey silicone. Is this really going to work? I’ll tell you tomorrow…
I am currently working on a small edition of my toys that is going to be revealed soon. For this I made a brand new illustration which will be featured on the outside of the toy’s box.
For all of those that follow my flickr photostream this is hardly newsworthy but I actually documented the making of this painting step by step. For everyone else, here is the whole process consolidated into one neat blog post.
Step 1: The underlying sketch in pencil.
Step 2: A light layer of gesso and some clean-up of the line work.
Step 3: The colors that will guide the mood.
Step 4: Black for the skyline

Step 5: Brown and gold and other messy layers
Step 6: Adding a little definition and colors
Step 7: Giving the monster more identity
Step 8: Refining the monster and tightening their features
Step 9: Same process for the last monster and the tanks. First the general colors and then the details
Step 10: Finished! Sign and date.
