Charlize Harlow resurfaces

Charlize Harlow - Failure

Well, some of you may remember this picture from an earlier post. And yes, I screwed up the silicone mold so bad that I had to throw it away. Yet, I did not throw away the few remaining resin pieces that you can see in this picture. This weekend I finally got around to painting these and putting the parts back together. Following are a few pictures of the painted figurine. The weird organic surface effect you can see on the head appeared after spraying it with a rattle can after I had already put on the acrylics. And it just occurs to me that it is a rather discomforting coincidence that I should write a background story about this character wherein it mysteriously disappears after being constructed/programmed…

The Death of Charlize Harlow

Unfortunately this picture is proof that my sculpt named “Charlize Harlow” has been destroyed in the process of trying to reproduce it. Do I consider it a failure? I do not know. To be honest there were parts of the sculpt that I was not 100% happy with and I was already thinking about reworking it. Of course, it is a bit painful to see it all shattered without even having the ability to make a few decent casts. Then again, I learned a valuable lesson and that is what I value above everything else. So, you will probably see some of the elements resurface in the near future but changes will occur.

Karl Diesel One-off

Karl Diesel one-off resin toy by Daniel Goffin

Next to the previously mentioned Cheburashka remake I also worked on this one-off paint job on my Karl Diesel resin toy. The colors I used are basically the same as in the first release but I switched the black sprays on the arms. I’ve also refrained from masking the teeth and used only the airbrush and some brushes.

Red Hot Greetings From Russia

Red Hot Greetings From Russia resin toy by Daniel Goffin

It has been almost a year since I began working on this toy. Back then it was meant to be a submission to a local show about Russia but unfortunately I never made it. After the show I had to shift my priorities towards my graduation project and ever since I have been looking at a couple of blank resin casts that were demanding a paint job. Finally I found the time to paint of these little buggers and I am quite happy with the result.

This resin toy is about 13 cm in height and it comes in four parts. The only point of articulation is the turret of tank which can turn 360 degrees. Like all my recent toys this has been painted with special automotive effect paints. However, the details on the figure and the tank have been added with ink.

Here is another shot from the time when I was working on the sculpt.

Kalua Moola “Netzwerk Mohawk Kid”

Kalua Moola "Netzwerk Mohawk Kid" at night

Since a few days ago I finished working on my collaboration with Eric Nocella Diaz of Argonaut Resins and Lord Mesa on their Kalua Moola. My custom turns the “Recession Agression” version into a Netzwerk pest called “Mohawk Kid”. These gang members can be often seen in the seedier areas of the Netzwerk and are distinguishable by their use of glowing hair and eyes and the scars from many fights and their constant drug abuse. Cheap color shifting skin is also quite popular among these.

This one off piece was made of a resin toy about 4″ high and modified with an internal battery powered LED circuitry and optic fibers. The light switch is hidden under the coin in the back. Pushing the coin up towards the mohawk activates the LEDs. The battery is replaceable.

Available at the Argonaut Resins Online Store for mere $158. Includes a header card signed by Lord Mesa and Eric Nocella Diaz, a small vinyl Netzwerk logo sticker and a hand drawn original header card by me.
