The Land Of Smiling

Here is just a note that we’ve (Alexander and me) have arrived save and sound in Kyoto, Japan. Trying to fight jet lag and the exhaustion of the heat wave this blog will probably go on a temporary hiatus and I will post as soon as I got some new art work to show. I am sure it won’t be long. Until then I will leave you with a happy smiley I found a few days ago in my cereal.

Oh, one more last thing… If you speak German or just want to see some pictures of our personal adventures here in Kyoto, Alex and me have set up a personal blog that you can visit here – Link to そこに

Predeparture Business

I might have hinted it here or there but in case anyone hasn’t seen it I am about to depart on a trip to Kyoto, Japan. I will study Manga at Kyoto Seika University for one semester. One of my preparational hurdles among trying to learn the basics of the language has been the designing of my own business card.

Justitia The Final Version

See my previous post for an explanation. This one is ink, colored and colored pencils. You also might want to have a look at the interpretations by my friends Alexander Draude and Nils Knoblich. Attention: NSFW fo’ sure.

Justice And Justitia

There is going to be a group show with a lot of participants of my illustration class and since it is going to be in the entrance area of one of the local courts one requirement for the show is to make a picture of Lady Justitia herself. Of course most version are probably nowhere near the classic idea of her and surprisingly my idea and thinking was quite similar to that of my friend Alex. My line of thinking though being more along the bloated, ugly and perverted. Here is a page of doodles I did yesterday during work. Might be considered NSFW for some.

The Rest Of The Picture

… or rather the other side of the spread. And another one. Having fun with Japanese words again. Strange how the detour of using the words/script of a different language makes me find some hidden humor. Here, it is especially the last sketch with a man screaming the word “tampon”.
