Jorinde and Joringel – Upupdate

I’m soaked. Like always I had to drive through 3.5 kilometers by bike to get back from work but usually it doesn’t rain. Oh well, it’s not really that bad because the temperature is still very mild. Again, during work, even though it was a busy day today, I found enough time to work on the character design of “Jorinde and Joringel”. This time it’s the witch and her male counterpart (in the original story that would be the flower). I guess the next thing to tackle will be a rough storyboard.

Jorinde and Joringel

Today’s link features the “Condi Bunee” from Toy2r by Dalek. Obviously a suicide bomber. Now, it’s an interesting idea to bring some political statements into the vinyl toy scene and the chosen topic will surely raise some eyebrows. I think it is much needed since a lot of the current vinyl which strifes to be something like art still doesn’t do more than look good for the sake of looking good. Still, I’m not sure if the design of said Qee is accomplishing it’s goal.

Jorinde and Joringel – Update

Yesterday Germany won vs. Sweden 2:0 and I couldn’t watch it because I had to work. Bummer. During work though I finally got around pinning down the final design for my “Jorinde and Joringel” story. Good. Besides the complete change in the visual way this tale is being told I’ve also changed the storyline. It’s not a story about love anymore but rather an explanation of the reproduction cycle of an alien life-form. Heh.

Jorinde and Joringel

And just before I thought I’d go home and sleep a little this morning (it was about 2am) I stumbled over a link to a video on Google. An animated movie from the 70′s titled “La Planète Sauvage” (engl.: Wild Planet). In itself already quite interesting but even more so because it was rescored with contemporary music from Amon Tobin, Prefuse 73, Aphex Twin and others. I was hooked and bedtime had to be delayed for another 70 minutes at least.

Final

Here’s one for procrastination. A poster made for the cafeteria art exhibition. The motif was “Finale” as in world cup soccer final match. Or something…

Finale

And here’s one for amusement or leaving your mouth open in amazement. I know I’ll get me a lyrebird instead of a tape deck next time I need to record something. Heh.

Last but not least make sure to check this wonderful digital painting by my friend Alexander Draude.

Sketches

Well, long time since I’ve posted anything. I’ve been away for a while at the International Film Festival in Annecy, France where I watched a whole slew of animated stuff. Some was good, a lot was mediocre and a few were really bad. Actually surprising (in a bad way) since Annecy is renowned to be the worlds largest and most important festival when it comes to animation. Especially sad, since a fellow student send her film in which was a lot better than most of the stuff being screened. Nevertheless I’ve been inspired and motivated to work more on my own animated stuff. Next to some freshness from my sketchbook, some character studies for my upcoming animated one minute short:

Blood and Frame

As you can see I’ve changed the character design quite a bit from the last sketch that I posted. I thought it would be a lot more interesting to have Robert, the zebra, “behave” like a real one instead of antropomorphizing it.
