Xi Yen Fu Update

Again, I feel like having procrastinated too much. I’m not sure if this is actually the case but here is something to post for a change.

I’ve been working on a sculpt of a Xi Yen Fu, a character design that I posted a while ago. The sculpt is almost done except for a bit of smoothing and cleaning. I’m going to produce this one probably as a resin cast and make it available in limited quantity for purchase. I haven’t decided on different color ways but it’s worth a thought. The first two pictures are obviously close-ups, the last is intended to give you a feeling for the size of the sculpt. It’s merely 5 cm tall (about 2″).

Now, one more thing. A postcard for Johannes a good friend of mine here in Kassel. He celebrated his birthday on wednesday and this is what he got.

Plank

This was fun. Fun as in procrastination. Doing other things than the ones you should do (a little wink to Jason, sorry). The result is a custom fingerboard. I found these in a local cheap-present-thingy-store. They’re probably useless for someone doing “real” fingerboarding but for a poor student like me 99¢ is an invitation for customization. I’m quite happy with the way this one turned out. Especially since I had to resort to acrylic colors. I didn’t have anything better at the moment but I will probably get me some colors for modell- and plastic-surface-painting for future projects. So without any further ado, I present you “plank”.

Oh, and since where it, here is another fun invention by the Pentagon. The Urban Combat Skateboard!

Döner Killer

Rainbow press, now that’s a topic. Of course there is one of those shitty paper wasters here in Kassel, too. It’s called ExtraTip and features the same poorly researched articles that these things try to boost sales with. Still some of those headlines are good for putting some inspiring images in your head. Am I justifying the existence of it? Whoa. Well, before I write more stupidity myself, here is the result of one of those headlines called “Döner Mörder” (Link to the original article in German)…

Luzern

I’ve been away for about a week helping out in Luzern, Switzerland at the 15th annual “International Comix Festival Fumetto”. I got to see a load of inspiring artwork and I met quite a few nice people. Luzern is an astonishingly beautiful city, especially when its sunny and all warm. I volunteered there with watching over a few exhibitions. Of course there was still plenty of time left to do some new sketches and drawings. The better of those are listed below for your enjoyment.

Luzern
The theater in Luzern with adjacent buildings. Took me about 4 hours and a sunburn to finish… I should practise that kind of stuff more often, it was a lot of fun. Fortunately spring and summer are just around the corner.

kitchen of Eva and Peter
The quite crammed kitchen of my hosts. They were as good in cooking as they have equipment, yummy it was indeed.

Paul Reichsteiner and Judith Miller
Lewis Libby and Mike Skinner
Doris Knecht and Nella Martinetti
Silvio Berlusconi and Azem Makustaj

The last pictured person Azem Makustaj was kind enough to pick me up in Luzern and help me hitch-hike to Zürich where I visited my brother. I hope Azem forgives me that the picture of him isn’t all too pleasant. If he doesn’t… I’d rather not meet him again. Eek. Just joking, of course.
