Sketchbooks

Wheee. I finally got around making some new custom sketchbooks. I took me about 1 and a half day to put together four unique books plus an extra diary that my dear mother asked to be made as a birthday gift. I’ve made some pictures of these beauties so y’all can catch a glimpse. I hope you dig them.

Weekendfun

Work, work, work. I feel like having worked too much this weekend. A by work I don’t mean drawing and being creative. Work is my slightly stupendous job in a local callcenter. Working as in order entry is not really enhancing your mental capabilities. Greet customer, take order number, summarize order and goodbye in less than 90 seconds (my average talk time) is not what I call “challenging”…
Nevertheless is have to give credit to my employer, not for paying me for what I do, but rather for letting me draw and sketch like mad during that time. It’s astonishing how much of my drawing skills are not dependant on active thinking processes. I can sketch and still talk to a customer – call it “advanced phone doodles” if you want, but I can’t do that when trying to develop a story or even write one. So, without any further silly talk, here is what I produced this weekend. Some during work, some whilst sitting on the balcony here at university enjoying the sweet fresh spring-time air and the cheers and shouts of people walking in the park.

Housemusik Update

I feel like I haven’t done much lately. That might be just my impression, but fact is I can’t really recall what exactly I’ve done in the last time…

I have finished coloring my first graphic novel called “housemusik”. It’s quite unusual in it’s format and the way it has to be read in order to understand it fully (all at once). Originally the character with the violin was planned to be the protagonist but somehow the story evolved differently than I thought. Now I have the problem that parts of the story seem half-done since the antagonists have gotten too much weight (or is it that the protagonist isn’t clearly enough to distinguish?). But before I start complaining and explaining and everything you can read and judge for yourselves. Also in comparison to my previous post on “housemusik” I have desaturated the colors a lot, making it easier on the eyes and an attempt at making it less “colorful”…

Xi Yen Fu (working title)

I’ve been away for the weekend. Out of Kassel. I thought it would be a nice time seeing something different but apart from seeing my beloved mother and brother it has been rather frustrating and tiring. Getting insulted by old farts and seeing my decaying grandfather is not really what I call relaxing. Unfortunately most relatives of my family are not a pleasure to be around.

Well, I won’t bother you with any further details. Today has been a lot more successful. I’ve been investing a lot of time in my comic again and it’s getting better the more I work on it. I’ve lost some time though since I made a few mistakes in the beginning and thus had to retrace the whole line-art in Illustrator again. While the powerbook was doing it’s part I used to the remaining time to do some more sketches on an idea that I had a few days ago. Here are the results. Xi Yen Fu (working title – I’m not sure I like it, yet) is some sort of battle monk from the deep heart of the Asian continent. He moves fast and efficient but doesn’t like talking. That’s why he only says one random aesthetically pleasing character (he speaking slang though – note the dot). I’m not sure if Xi Yen Fu is going to be used for anything but I find the idea of turning him into a plush toy quite good…

warmup

Just four quick doodles before doing something more time consuming. Label stickers of 38mm x 18mm with ink. That’s all.
